Dealing With Eczema On My Face

I have not been happy with my skin for a long time and after finding out what the dryness was around my mouth after so long was such a relief. I’d been back and forth to my GP numerous times over the past year. It had got to the point where I sometimes didn’t want to even leave the house because make up couldn’t hide the dry flakey skin above my lip.

“I hated looking at myself in the mirror, I just wanted it to go away!”

I’d had blood tests taken, taken iron tablets, acne cream, looked into my diet incase anything I was eating was reacting with my skin, even came up with my own diagnosis which was perioral dermatitis until I finally saw a Doctor who is always so difficult to get an appointment with. As soon as I sat down and told her, she looked at me and told me straight up that it was Eczema.

My Doctor prescribed me with Hydrocortisone which she told me to apply very sparingly, two times a day. I decided after seeing her that I wasn’t going to use anymore steroid cream on my face as previous steroid based creams hadn’t worked. Instead, I researched in to some natural creams that could help my eczema and moisturise my face back to it’s original state. I wanted to keep it natural, as I have recently recognised how sensitive my skin really is and when I found Aveeno online, I knew that there would be no harm in giving it a try. I’d also recently spoken to my Gran’s sister who uses Bio Oil on her face too which is good  for uneven skin tone and dehydrated skin. Every evening after my shower, I apply a dot of Aveeno Cream on my face and once it is all soaked in I use a small amount of Bio Oil. Immediately after using both these products, my skin is so much softer and looks a lot healthier but the best thing is that my eczema has calmed down and there isn’t the red irritated skin that has been there for the past year.

I’m not 100% sure on what triggered my eczema. It could’ve been a reaction to a product I used on my face or perhaps it was triggered due to the cold and dry atmosphere I had begun working in. Eczema can also be triggered by stress and although I never thought I was stressed, sometimes you need to take a step back and just spend some time unwinding and relaxing instead of constantly being on the go. Until now, I never realised the importance of looking after your skin and moisturising regularly. I would always find my skin turning very snake like after a month in the sun and never really doing anything about it.
